Focused Discussion Meetup in Herndon, Saturday 2/25

All,

We're having a focused discussion meetup in Herndon this Saturday.

In my survey last summer after the organizer's meetup, several people mentioned they wanted different kinds of events in places easier to reach from the outer suburbs. While we can't hit every point on the compass, the top location requested was the Dulles Tech Corridor. Ben Schwab graciously offered his condo in Herndon for a more focused discussion on the philosophy of science.

The topic will be:

"How important is the ability to make accurate predictions to the practice and usefulness of science?"

We're blocking off 7:30 to 9:00 pm for the discussion, but everyone is welcome and encouraged to arrive earlier, starting at 6:30. We'll have our normal free-wheeling discussion before and afterwards.

This will take place at Ben's condo:

205 Meeting House Station Square #403,

Herndon, VA 20170

Text Ben at 240-391-6021 to get inside the building. There is parking available in the lot and on nearby streets. The new Metro Silver Line Herndon station is nearby; I plan to pick up people beforehand (~6:30) and drop them off after, reach out to John on facebook messenger or at 202-495-1332 if you need a ride.

If you have any questions for Ben on the topic, contact him at schwabbenjamin [at] gmail [dot] com.

For further detail or coordination, plese register for the Facebook event at this link: https://facebook.com/events/s/herndon-science-philosophy-dis/754258092544555/

Note, no one was explicitly invited on Facebook because Michael Tint unilaterally removed my moderation ability and blocked me from inviting people. The other local organizers and I have been trying to keep this from becoming "community drama," but Michael is making the quiet path untenable. I'm discussing what to do about this with other organizers and Scott's designated Meetup Czar. More to come.

Sincerely,

John Bennett
