About This Newsletter

This is our new email newsletter for Astral Codex Ten and other Rationality Meetups around the Washington, DC Metro Area. We host events such as:

• Bi-annual Meetups Everywhere Gatherings

• Socials at various locations around the DC area

• Single-Topic Discussion Meetups, usually in Herndon, VA

• Social Board Game Afternoons, usually in Crystal City, VA

• Occasional Group Hikes and other cultural excursions

We’ll also try to keep you posted on other rationalist/rational-ish events that might be of interest, both locally and in the surrounding area. We won’t overwhelm you; expect two or three emails most months.

To discuss event details, such as to coordinate rides or decide who’s bringing what, either use the comments section on these posts or our public facebook page (link below). Most events will also have a Point-of-Contact listed, who you can reach out to directly.

This email list was created by John Bennett, Kayla Gamin, and Ben Schwab, in partnership with Skyler Crossman, the new Rationality Meetup Coordinator. Our previous Google Groups listserv had limited tech and occasionally goes to spam. We were also stuck with the URL we signed up for using the name of Scott Alexander’s prior blog, https://groups.google.com/g/dc-slatestarcodex. The old Google Group will get a few more posts to redirect people over the next few months, but then it will be archived.

There also exists another DC ACX mailing list moderated primarily by Eliza J, Michael T, and Mr. Meeseeks at https://groups.google.com/g/dc-acx.

As part of our partnership with the Global Rationality Meetups organization, we’re encouraging new hosts to have the sort of events they’d want to attend. If you’re interested but need some ideas to get started, check out the Resources page here. In particular, if you’d like to bring the single-topic salon to your neighborhood, please reach out! P.S., Our round yellow Dall-E logo is a placeholder. It was enough to get us started, and I like the general scheme, but there’s several image artifacts and it’s fuzzier than I’d like. If you’ve been playing around with generative AI or graphic design, please try your hand at making a better one. It does not need to follow the schema we’ve used so far.
