We're Hosting "The Overhang" Forecasting Conference

In DC, Sept 19-20! Discounted Early Bird Tickets end Tomorrow

Ben Shindel, Rachel Shu, Sammy Cottrell, and I are hosting "The Overhang" forecasting conference on September 19th and 20th near Dupont Circle. This is a blend of programmed conference and rationalist unconference, modeled after Manifest in Berkeley, a scaled-up version of last year's Manifest X DC. We hated turning people away last year, so now it’s two full days, more than twice as much time, with proper conference space, and capacity for 150 attendees. Afterparty to follow nearby.

A few early bird tickets are still available, but even our regular ticket prices are set just above our cost of catering. This is possible because this event is an experiment by the team working to build a version of Lighthaven in DC. We want to seed the weekend with people from the community, capturing that sense of playfulness, ambition, whimsy, and skill that Lighthaven events instill… and test out interesting and deranged session formats.

The theme of this weekend will be Forecasting, broadly construed, whether that’s prediction markets, calibration, your own personal growth, or just talking about exciting new problems we’ll solve in the world to come.

Refunds are offered for any reason until two weeks before the conference. If you’re interested but not sure if you can make it, go ahead and register, then set a calendar reminder to confirm by September 4th.

We are also looking for volunteers! We'll ask for two shifts: six hours on Saturday and four hours on Sunday. We plan for each volunteer to have one shift helping speakers in the session rooms, so you should only miss content during your other shift (e.g., checking people in at the front desk or helping with supplies). Volunteering is also an option for free admission if ticket prices are a concern. If you request a volunteer ticket, make sure you fill out the "additional information" section to tell us about your background, availability, and any experience helping with similar conferences.

The Overhang 2026. Join us to talk about the world to come.

Brought to you by Sparrow Infrastructure, a mysterious bird that landed on your windowsill.
